Brick Schoolhouse #11 |
|
Site: V10-75 |
Description:
The handsome brick building to the north is now owned by Anderson (P.D. Richardson in 1869). It was first a general goods store run by the Stockers, who married into the Lull family, as well as the Town Clerk's Office. It later became a school (1872) and was used as such until the population outgrew the space. In the 1890s, each school could choose its own motto and colors. Four Corners colors were yellow and black and the motto went: "Find Something Worth Doing Each Day". Crafted in a flowing script and embellished with birds and flowers, the school motto was inscribed on a long blackboard at rear. The building was converted to a private residence after the new Four Corners school (now the Activity Center) was built in 1932. Both house and the barn are eligible for the State Registry.
