Ada Townsend House |

Site: V09-84 |
Description:
STATEMENT OF SIGNIFICANCE:
The house is a 2 story, wood frame, Federal style I-house with (1) a hip roof (2) one interior chimney on each end (north and south) elevation, and (3) a 2-1/2 story, wood frame ell which is attached to the north end of the rear (east) elevation. From the road, U.S. Route 5, the ell masks the I-house configuration of the house and gives the house the appearance of being a 2-1/2 story, Federal style house with a "Georgian" first floor plan: i.e., basically, two large rooms flanking each side of a center stair hall. The house was erected in circa 1800 by Robert Lord. The two barns are each 2-1/2 stories in height, are of wood frame construction with jerkinhead gable roofs, and are connected to each other by a 1-1/2 story stable section of wood frame construction with a shed roof. The two barns were probably erected between 1880 and 1900.
