The land for this, the first cemetery in Claremont, was voted by the town in 1768. Inside a small iron railing is the oldest stone, marking the grave of Mr. Benadick Roys (d. 1769) . In the original section is a grove of huge pine trees which have swallowed up several of the stones. Over the years the cemetery has become very extensive, and it is now preponderantly modern.
