Description:

This farm house was built by Samuel Ashley III (1773-1813) in 1795-96. He was in the Militia and known as Major Ashley. In 1796, he married Anna Sumner (1774-1850), daughter of Col. Benjamin Sumner, Claremont's leading Tory, and was the father of fourteen children. Thus the daughter of a Tory and the son of a notable patriot were the progenitors of Harrison Hagan Schmitt, the first geologist on the moon.

Later owners were: (1813) Anna Sumner Ashley; (1850) Emily Ashley Higbee; (1851) Samuel Rice Grannis (father of Samuel Higbee Grannis). Now owned by Frank Gould.
