DESCRIPTION:

The Cold River bridge is situated just off Route 123A going toward South Acworth. It was erected during the Fall of 1869. The Town paid Albert S. Granger, son of the inventor, $450.00, for this present structure, which is 86 feet long, 16 feet 4 inches wide and 20 feet high. This bridge was used to cross Cold River at this point until replaced in 1964. It was known at one time as the McDermott Bridge, Now it stands as a historic and scenic attraction. They enhance the scenic beauty of our State and Highway, and should be preserved for future generations.


STATEMENT OF SIGNIFICANCE

The Cold River bridge is 86 feet long, 16 feet 4 inches wide and 20 feet high. It is a Granger Patent lattice type bridge, held together by wooden trunnels.

The present condition of this bridge is fair, the roof needs boarding and shingling desperately.

Repairs have been started on the abutments and arches which have given way to the weather.
